Our Narrative
Women Are Dreamers Too (WADT) - a 501(c)(3) charitable organization - was established in 1998 with a resolute mission: to uplift victims of Domestic Violence (DV) and their children beyond the confines of poverty. Our journey is dedicated to Crafting a Brighter Future for DV Survivors and Their Children.
WADT recognizes that amidst the challenges endured by impoverished individuals, women subjected to domestic abuse bear an additional set of batterer-generated risks, namely the threat of abject poverty and homelessness. Additionally, we understand that the innocent bystanders, the children, also encounter parallel hardships.
Our purpose is to dismantle the pernicious cycle of poverty and violence experienced by our participants and their children. Through meticulous micro-enterprise technical training, WADT has championed the cause of fostering self-sustaining economic independence among our participants for the past 25 years.
Driven by self-determination, we remain steadfast in nurturing sustainable economic growth within the diverse communities we serve. Our overarching economic solutions are seamlessly aligned with programs that empower survivors to enact permanent transformations in their lives. Through this, women and children transition from victims to survivors, effectively breaking the cycle of intergenerational abuse.
Our economic solutions are innovatively tailored to cater to the distinct needs of each victim, woman, and child. We tackle crises of domestic violence through a unique, long-term, and comprehensive approach that extends beyond mere emergency services.
WADT stands as a collaborative endeavor, uniting several non-profit domestic violence and housing service agencies. Our resolute belief is that by cultivating micro-entrepreneurs, we facilitate sustainable economic independence among our candidates, fundamentally investing in their human capital.
We provide tuition-free STEM/STEAM programs for our children, GED opportunities, financial literacy education, workforce development, and business training for our candidates. This stems from our unyielding commitment to broaden educational horizons for all participants and their children.
Why Extend a Helping Hand?
--------------------------------
Failure to assist leaves women and children disenfranchised, resulting in generations of economic dependency. Neglecting to intervene perpetuates the cycle of abuse, amplifying socio-economic costs and emotional burdens. Through our assistance, we create productive citizens who enrich society. Extending help is not just a gesture, but a lifeline—a call to action to save lives.
Your involvement through volunteering is a testament to shared dreams and aspirations for a brighter future. Lend your time, talents, and resources to join us in the mission to save lives, for together, we can make an enduring impact.
Our Core Principle - Lighting the Way
----------------------------------------------
Our guiding principle, "If I can help somebody, If I can leave this world better than I found it, If I can quench a thirst, If I can wipe away a tear, If I can stop abuse, If I can save a life, If I can be an instrument of change..." underscores our unwavering commitment to eliminating domestic violence. We bestow hope because hope is a potent force—this is our call to serve.
We are founded on the philosophy of "teach me to fish, so I may fish for life." This premise underpins our endeavors to instigate sustainable change.
Dream with Us, Forge a Better Tomorrow
-------------------------------------------
Let's unite in dreaming for a better tomorrow. Together, we can create a future free from the shadows of domestic violence.
To those who dare to dream, those who confront fear daily, to the children who are innocent bystanders caught in these circumstances, to those who have lost their lives while fleeing abuse, to those shackled by batterer-generated economic threats—we offer these words:
"BE NOT AFRAID, FEAR NO MORE, THE HEAVENS LEAD YOUR WAY ALWAYS! Your true essence is defined by the clarity of your convictions, the choices you make, and the promises you uphold. Stay steadfast to your principles, resist the tide of convenience. Your words and actions mirror your identity, an identity that endures. Cling on, do not relinquish hope, the Heavens envelop you. BE NOT AFRAID!! To the children, you might not comprehend, you might not grasp why? Yet, the Heavens have guided you this far; you are a survivor. Hold on, for every dawn heralds a new day! Keep your dreams alive, NEVER GIVE UP!" This site is dedicated to all DV survivors and their children who dare to dream!
You are the genuine HEROES among us.
