MACON, Ga. — A dead body was found stuffed in a trash can in the Sanford Arms Apartments, behind the CVS on Gray Highway on Thursday morning, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office Deputies went to the apartments to investigate a report of a missing person, according to a release.

When they got there, they say deputies found Teasha Ariele Colbert, 42, dead in a curbside trash can inside one of the apartments. Colbert was the missing person who was reported earlier, according to the sheriff's office.

Jones said that Colbert was found dead in an apartment that she did not live in. Jones also said that he hopes the GBI crime lab will do an autopsy on Friday.

Bibb County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Christopher Williams said they are investigating the case as a homicide.

"She was the life of the party. The glue that held our family together," Colbert's sister, Sandy, remembered.

Law enforcement officials roped off the street.

Officials were reprimanding people who were crossing the crime scene tape, trying to get closer to the area.

The apartment complex is on the corner of Sanford Place and Sanford Avenue.

This is a developing story. We will update as information becomes available.
